ONE ELEMENT, ANY BACKGROUND

The chrome paints itself

The corner logo and MENU are painted white and composited with mix-blend-mode: difference. The exact same element reads near-black on the paper ground and inverts to white over a photograph — no second colour, no theme switch, no JavaScript.

On paperdifference(white, #faf9f6) → reads near-black
Over a photodifference(white, photo) → inverts to white

Same markup, same CSS, both panels. The background does the work.
