How To Measure Without a Ruler weighs the personal archive against the scientific. Gleaning its imagery from my father's collection of slides and prints, the series blurs the lines between the photographs used to document the changing climate and snapshots of my father's life and my family's history. Presenting the personal archive alongside the naturally occurring archives of the tree cores throughout the works draws an analogous link between their formation, and that of the slow and gradual accumulation of a photographic archive.
