A 2017 series of altered giclée prints — proposals for future images, drawn from a father's 35mm slide collection captured through climate-monitoring work
2017Carousel is a series of studies exploring the relationship between personal and scientific imagery. Using imagery from my father's collection of 35mm slides — captured through his work in climate-monitoring sciences — the series renders the images as negatives, creating proposals for future images. Scratching into the prints in a method similar to retouching a negative, the images are overlaid with abstracted versions of the subjects being studied while the photos were being taken. They blur the lines between what constitutes a scientific image and a family's sentimental archive.
